The Beginning of Flowers

Mother's Day Petunias

For Mother's Day, my mom gave me some beautiful pink petunias. I planted them in the flower bed on the steps that Isaac and Aysha cleared out for last year. You can see a little green dianthus plant in the front. That leads to a sad story. :(

Last year, Aysha planted two perennial dianthus plants and was looking forward to seeing them regrow this spring. When they were about as high as you see in the photo, the deer walked by one night and chomped one of the plants down to the roots, killing it.

This is what the dianthus looked like last year:

The surviving dianthus did bloom this year, but it didn't do as well as last year. However, as you will see in succeeding blog posts, the pink petunias loved that spot on the stairs!! They loved getting lots of sun and lots of water, and they flowed all over the flower bed.
