Mr. Paul

Grand Dad came to our Veterans Day Assembly at Pocatello High School November 11.  He greeted Aysha and I before the assembly started and tried to convince Aysha to sit with him in the seats of honor in the center of the gym, but she declined.  This photo was taken after the assembly:

Grand Dad has developed a large fan club throughout School District #25 as the substitute teacher who gives out stickers and bad jokes.  Many students have told him that he is their favorite sub, and they wish he was their teacher every day!  When he is around town shopping, he often has fans run up to him and say, "Mr. Paul!  Can I have a sticker?" and he gives them a sticker from the supply that he always keeps in his wallet.

As one of the guests of honor (here he is with the other veterans recognized at the assembly), he had the opportunity to introduce himself.  He waited to be the last, then got up to the microphone and said, "Mr. Paul!"  Then he waited, with a dramatic pause, to receive the applause that followed.  Aysha said that someone near her said, "I know that guy!"

After the assembly, many students came down to the floor to have their photo taken with their hero, "Mr. Paul."  Grand Dad happily obliged.
