Joel chose to do his Eagle Scout project at the Pocatello Community Charter School playground. Mr. Mendive, PCCS school dean, already had the thermoplastic for the black top. Joel did all the paperwork and organizing. He spent one evening with Mr. Mendive laying out and measuring the designs. Then he coordinated several men from our ward who had weed burners to melt the thermoplastic onto the asphalt on August 25, the last Saturday before school started. A few of Joel's fellow scouts helped lay out the thermoplastic. Gran and Grand Dad helped with lunch for the volunteers, and Aysha helped with photography. Sister Southwick brought over leftover popsicles from the Primary activity that morning.

It was hot and the air was smoky from forest fires. We were so grateful for the men who came anyway and melted thermoplastic in the hot, smoky air!

Joel's Court of Honor was held in our church on April 14, 2019. The Relief Society room was filled with Joel's friends, family, and supportive ward members who were so excited for him!
